Widgets


I am becoming more and more intrigued with widgets.  I have several on my professional site, which I have placed on the “Links” page.  I know the layout leaves something to be desired, but I tend to get excited and just insert them before I forget.

I guess they appeal to me because of the “social” aspect; it’s very nice when people encourage you to share what they are doing.  It’s also great when they automatically update their material, such as the Steve Spangler Science widget.  I was a little disappointed to see the DimDim widget had an expired session and needed to be replaced manually.

I guess this is all part of a learning process.  I haven’t been this excited about prospects for education in a long time, and it’s funny to think that something as small as a widget can really make a difference in how we communicate with each other.
